What’s Next for Public Place?

The city has not yet released the official results of the bidding process for Public Place, but the housing department did say that it received six bids. Five of the bidding groups have already been discussed in the press and they include some of the city’s most prominent real estate developers.
Bob Zuckerman, executive director of the Gowanus Canal Community Development Corporation and the Gowanus Conservancy, has partnered with four of the six bidders. He hopes to help run some of the community programs currently envisioned for the senior population that will move into the Public Place development. Zuckerman is familiar with most of the proposals for the site, and while he could not comment on specifics, he gave an overview of the type of buildings and amenities we can expect to see there.
